The purpose of this post is to congratulate another cabinet member of our club on official engagement. As we speak, he is spending Chinese New Year's in Taiwan but I an engagement party will take place during the trip so a big congrats!!!

Nope, the post is not about santa even though I've heard that santa is satan's fake name when he wants to trick us. Anyways, this is about our club president getting married on January 5th, 2008. I was wondering what are we going to do to sent him away to the one person who refuses to join our club! Maybe we can have a flag/touch football game for president Eric since he loves sports so much and his beloved Broncos won this weekend and his Rockies are playing in the World Series (go Rockies!!!). Anyone in?

our secretary of homeland security is going on a camping trip with his colleagues who has never gone camping. and some of them also only 吃素...

our attorney general is getting ready to move on 6/1/07.

I went to see Vienna Teng at the Birchmere in Alexandria last Sunday. She changed her style in her recently released third ablum "Dreaming Through the Noise". More Jazzy; more twists in the melody; more space in her lyric lines. I wanted to get her new album at the concert to avoid paying for shipping fees, but all of the albums were sold out already.

For some reasons, Vienna always sounds better when performing live than on CD.

陶樂絲學期末的混亂忙碌總算在上星期五結束了! 不好意思很久沒有關心大家，我我我真的不是故意的。昨天跑去MD跟Daniel, Lisa, and Sop chill. 雖然最近睡眠嚴重不足，開車開的超痛苦，但是看到久違的朋友真是太開心啦，哈哈。而且還親眼見到Wayne 設計的貼紙...被人貼在車上，啊果然是不虛此行。陶樂絲星期二要飛去瑞士跟家人見面，所以如果有人要瑞士的東西，請告訴我喔。

主持人是世新大學教授李筱峰與政大台史所教授戴寶村
我在大一時選修政大歷史系薛化元教授的台灣文化史就認識了李筱峰這號人物
他長期鼓勵台灣的歷史課程應該以台灣為主體, 算是在台面上比較活躍的學者.

話說 "黑色星期五"(註一) 是這裡大血拼的日子
林先生為了幫表妹買台手提電腦
好幾天前就在籌備與計劃當天的戰略
我這個 "三寶身體" 的人
根本沒有想要跟幾百個人在冰冷的夜裡
等著 "好買賣" 跟 "電路城市" 開門
唯一想過的就是凌晨十二點要到 "美利堅合眾國電腦" 去買個硬碟
因為回饋後的硬碟只要美金二十圓

雖然說整個禮拜都在想這些事
不過也是要好好吃一噸
今年的感恩節一點沒有感恩節的感覺
原因之一也是因為感恩節的前幾天
氣溫還是華氏七十度根本跟秋天沒兩樣
加上今年無尾熊沒有從學校回來過節
所以根本沒有感到要過節
不過今年也找了陶樂絲鄧與啾
一起到黃家感恩節派對
吃完後我們每個人都重了很多啦

好啦吃完了就要去工作啦
林先生跟他的哥哥(史提芬)與
因該被加入 SFC 的法蘭克在史提芬家集合
玩了點電動後差不多凌晨一點中到"好買賣" 排隊
到 "好買賣" 時前面已經有 30 幾個人在排隊
這個三人組的戰略是當 "好買賣" 的大門一開時
法蘭克會在大門口擋住後面所有的人
然後林先生與史提芬就要衝進店裡買他們需要的東西
不過他們三個人在 "好買賣" 排隊了四十五分鐘之後
因為太冷(華氏三十度)與覺得對面的 "辦公室倉庫" 一個人也沒有
而手提電腦價格也不錯所以決定晚一點再回 "辦公室倉庫" 排隊
就回家繼續打電動了...

那你可能會問我這個 SFC 精神領袖跑到哪裡去啦
其實我想說去買個硬碟回到家因該只是凌晨十二點半
所以回家後還可以在看個電影然後跳到我溫暖被窩裡睡覺
結果一切出乎意料
我跟茱麗亞星期四晚上十一點半到 "美利堅合眾國電腦" 排隊等凌晨十二點開門
到的時候前面已經有好像三百個人
想說一開門就可以衝進去買個硬碟
結果 "美利堅合眾國電腦" 居然管制客人進出的流程
所以我等到凌晨一點才進的去
在等的時候是有點想放棄因為真的很冷
不過想到林先生要排整夜所以不能那麼輕易放棄
進去還好還很暖活不過一進去才發現出不來
因為有太多人啦而收銀機才五台
如果裡面有 300 個客人
一台收銀機就要服務 60 個客人
如果一個客人結帳時間給他個 2 分鐘
這樣也要等個 2 個小時
不過你也知道美國店員的效率
不可能在兩分鐘解決一個客人
結果
我在裡面等到凌晨三點半才出來
反正那天到的早上六點才入睡
我在無型中活出了 SFC 的精神
感覺有點恐...

一開始還很感動因為林先生跟我說

我一定要去參加 “黑色星期五” 因為這是 SFC 的精神啊!
結果林先生還是沒有完完全全活出 SFC 的精神
不過值得一提的是
雖然這中間的過程還被 "好買賣" 與 "辦公室倉庫" 騙以及跟大約瑟換電腦 (註三)
林先生最後還是有買到他要給表妹的手提電腦
而我們也買到了我們需要的音響系統

這次的感恩節過的有點怪怪的
不過還是有跟 SFC 團員過感恩節
和活出了 SFC 的精神啦

註一: 不知道黑色星期五的人看這裡啦

註二: 相片上只有主菜. 主菜吃之後想像相片都是甜點

註三: 大約瑟與他弟弟丹尼爾(簡稱太陽隊)也有到 "電路城市" 去排隊
太陽隊也是去買手提電腦而他們禮拜四晚上十點半就去排隊了
他們到的時候前面已經有十五個人了
當我合茱麗亞星期五凌晨三點半送毛毯去給他們時
你可以看到一大堆人坐在 "電路城市" 外面蓋著睡袋有夠像在逃難

所也看起來還有模有樣

經過Sop的號召, 我決定來貢獻一下.....
感覺已經超久沒有在網路上寫東西了 :)

我大學的時候, bbs (bulletin board system) 瘋狂流行著
那時候的學生, 書可以不念, bbs不能不上
我因為跑社團平常都不在寢室裡
所以和室友們想出一個辦法連絡感情
那就是設立一個"寢板"在bbs上
大家看到有什麼好文章, 或是有什麼想法想抒發
就post在寢板上面
不過隨著升上大四, 準備研究所的準備研究所, 打工的打工,
寢板也就默默的乏人問津了~

我在大三的時候認識了一群別系的學長姊
跟他們感情很要好, 常常一起出去吃飯一起玩
後來得知其中一些人在kkcity站上有個秘密的站
我也就申請了一個自己的板
從大三到畢業前後post了至少有一千多篇文章吧~
不過後來因為我去工作, 學長們研究所畢業去當兵
那個站也逐漸荒廢了~

上班後的我其實還蠻懶得post的
因為整天都在看電腦下了班就算開電腦也是因為想找人聊天
而且那陣子極端不信任人. 所以也不願意把自己的心情攤開給人知道~
不過我一直很喜歡看人家post的文章
可能因為我有種"文字趨向性"...就像飛蛾撲火那樣
只要在外面看到哪裡有字, 我的頭通常都會不自覺偏過去

來美國後, 偶然發現酪梨壽司的blog台
她是一個台灣留學生在NYU 念MBA
跟我一樣是去年來美國的
她的文章寫得很不錯, 詼諧而幽默
然後又逐漸發現一些很不錯關於烹飪的blog
開始了我的blog reader 生涯 :P

對! 我把版面改了! 雖然我們進入秋天不過這個版面很適合團員們現在的心情.

回美有快一個月了上個禮拜六跟 Salili, 蘿菠林, and 阿丹丹一起在我家看電影. 好久沒見面了因為大家都忙著上學上班出國. 聽到每天有讀不完的書的 Salili 來 DC interview 時還說要來看我真是令我感動. 聽到 Salili 為了省錢再 VT 所做的事覺得真是天下無難事只怕有心人阿…

快轉到昨天晚上五位 SFC 團員一起去參加前總統李登輝先生的演講 (細節請到阿丹丹的網頁看). 遠在賓洲的陶樂絲鄧也再次從山上衝下來參加. 見面只有短短兩個小時不過一個禮拜內看到這麼多 SFC 團員真高興. 雖然我們的團長來福先生人不在而他的精神也沒有跟我們同在不過我們還是會繼續他的夢想努力的經營他的 club. 其實我本人覺得只要把 SFC 的一個字母改掉來先生的精神又會與我們同在 =] 不過改革談何容易呀… 所以我們要做新 SFC 團員. 不要管是 SFC 還是 CFC 或是 LFC. 反正只要知道我們是台灣人就好了. 不要在這麼亂的局勢當中失去了主體性.

還有阿...這個 blog 好像都只有某些人在貢獻. 也請其他團員也有錢出錢有力出力 =]

Big Band Jazz Concert at Carlisle, PA

If you are interested in Big Band Jazz, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and The Pied Pipers is gonna perform at the Carlisle Theater in Carlisle, PA at 8:00pm on Saturday, September 24.

The cheapest ticket price is $20, but we should still be able to get pretty good seats if we reserve early.

The Carlisle Theater is within 5~10 min walking distance from the Dickinson School of Law, which is Dorothy's school. If you guys come in the afternoon, we can take a tour of our town, go get dinner at some local restaurants, then go to the concert, and maybe ice-cream after the concert.

You are more than welcomed to stay overnight, but I don't have much space to host people since I live in the dorm. We should be able to work that out if any of you want to stay anyways.

Please let me know if you want to come.

End of Summer - Sorta

It's almost the end of the summer and I'll be taking a 3 weeks trip to Taiwan. Just wanna thank all of you for making my summer a fun experience. Normally I would probably just have all the fun by myself or with Ken but this year I was able to share it with a bunch of new friends =]. Though the formation of this club is really buzzard and plus I don’t like to be in the spotlight but we found another way to relate, communicate, and most of all hang out with each other. I do not like the traditional way of hanging out, which is to just get together to eat and talk, simply because I rather ask strange questions and listen and learn from others so I was really happy to be able to pick up biking this summer, some camping, and the fishing trip we didn’t take. It would have been terrible to fish and catch all those cancerous fish the news has been reporting about as they are already suffering enough from the pollution. Beside the healthier way of hanging out, I am glad that we were able to show our care for each other through our numerous “food” get together. I think that’s probably the best way Taiwanese people know how to care for others. The summer comes to an end and everyone returns to their “normal” life, but I know the spirit of this club will continue on regardless of where we are heading and which direction we are taking in our lives. Plus there is still PSU/VT to visit and even possibly Princeton. *rolling my eye ball* And maybe during my 3 week stay in Taiwan, I’ll help with the preparation of the Taiwan chapter since we are already sending President Laifu to recruit and oversee the entire operation. =P

Fantasy Biking 2

Just wanna let every know that the warrior...ok ok not warrior but just the crazy ones (Danio, Dorothy, Kenny, & Sop) of SFC went out to biking this past Saturday. We bike for a hourish and the latter part of the trip was showered with rain. It was fun riding in the rain and I hope no one got sick. Went to the newly opened Santini's in Vienna for dinner afterwards. Yum. No picture this trip. No one wanted to take picture in the rain I suppose.

ps. the real warriors danio and dorothy biked for like 12-14 miles... ken and i just biked about 7-8 miles

Last Thursday Laifu cooked for Lisa because she was heading back to VTech for school after cooking 2 month of dinner for him. The dinner was yummy.

And 大胖 also joined us. I think he really enjoyed it.

Lisa finally noticed the banner Laifu made for her!!! (Notice all those busy bodies in the kitchen!)

Cindy who made her fry patinas wore a blue tshirt and it was kind of interesting how the color of her tshirt is the same color as the...

SFC tshirt Laifu made for us!!! The tshirt is in high demand and Laifu can tell you about it.

We know deep down Cindy wants to be a part of us but she just can't get up enough courage to say that out loud. And it was too bad that Dorothy had to miss the dinner.

Thanks everyone for the surprise. I was so serious about Wednesday me being at my house and thinking someone would jump out of the closet or something...

Fantasy Biking

Danio, Chyu, Sop and I went biking on Saturday. The day was hot above 90s, however that didn't really matter. While you ride, you feel the wind blowing right at you and that cools down everything. Since we were all beginners, none of us actually shift gears on our way until we all either got tired or talked about it. I didn't want to shift gear because I wanted to train my legs a little, but I had to because of uphills and the long ride. Danio and Chyu rode a little bit more than 10 miles and Sop and I went for about 8 miles. We started from Vienna and actually stopped at Sunrise valley road which is close to Sop's work place in Reston. While on our return trip, there was a down hill which helped me to sped to 39kmh according to the digital meter that I have on the bike. That was really fun.

After the fun ride, Sop suggested to stop by an ice cream place so we did. It was called Neilsen's Frozen Custers. We end up eating sandwiches there for dinner. They were actually pretty good. Now that's something to look forward to and motivate us to go for more rides in the future.

Next time, hopefully you all get to join us for the fun.

So this is supposed to be about the fantasy camp that seems eon ago. I have been thinking about it and actually ponder on the question: what this club is really about. Here is what I have.

If you ask one of the sfc members, what is sop way? He or she might say ? "Cheap is good. Free is better." It might be true but I think it means more than that. Before I discuss it, let??s see how this club actually came about. Here is the very very very short history:

During 2004 summer, Danio moved back to Maryland and started working. Danio also went back to EFC-DC and was ready to make some new friends. NBA seasons came around the corner and some people from candlelight fellowship invited me to join a fantasy basketball league. It turned out Sop was the manager. Because of that, danio got sop's im and started their "cyber relationship". Because of some "dispute" in the fantasy league, sop and danio got something common to talk about. Through all the discussions, danio found that sop's big head actually contains some substances. This girl can actually think and has a lot of ideologies that are similar to Danio's. Danio always likes to introduce his friends to each other, so sop met laifu and chyu. Sooner after that, laifu discovered that sop was actually his next-door neighbor. Their relationship grew tremendously since sop likes to collect junks from Laifu. Laifu also found sop very cool. As time passes, laifu found sop too cool to be mere human so he decided to idolize her. (how weird) Fantasy Camp/Fantasy club idea started brewing in his head.

Danio's fake cousin/high school friend Dorothy got her internship at DC, so she became the next one to be recruited. Then they had the Fantasy Camp at Smith Mountain Lake. During the three days, everyone got to know each other a lot of better and also formalized a lot of SFC values. SFC had its kick-off meeting and instituted its officers. Rob moved to DC during the same period. Of course, it wasn't too hard for him to join since Rob is all about cheapness. Then Rob??s lovely sister Lisa (aka Salili) also came to DC for summer internship. The Lin party in SFC suddently became majority party. (4 lin vs. 3 non-lin) Even though laifu and danio concerned about the situation, everyone continued to enjoy all the events/ laugters and caring from each other.

Dorothy left for Taiwan after her brief stay, but she already promised to start SFC PA chapter when she returns in august. Even though she doesn't hold any official title, she has proven to be a total team player, which is an essential character that sfc member must have. Sop was happy that her "kingdom" has a bright future. Then at EFC Joint Retreat, even though it's a church retreat, Laifu and sop had their hidden agenda in mind : recruiting more members (and of course recruiting danio's friend is the way to go) Without much effort, Kev joined. The population of PA chapter suddenly doubled. Sop also found Frank L. As it turned out, Frank has been a fan for many years. So two more new members joined. At retreat, laifu as the president again demonstrated what it really means to be a team member by head-down sliding to the home base at the softball game. He got some lacerations on both legs, but his inspirational run brought back the eventual tying run. He also dedicated his ping pong trophy to SFC. What a classic guy he is. As you can see, sfc spirit (or sop way) is demonstrated by the members everywhere. So that??s the brief history up to this date.

(man?Kdanio can really bs. He hasn??t really got to his main point yet) So what does Sop Way really mean? I guess it really starts with sop and her relentless energy to build a community of friends who care about each other genuinely. (even though it's her community) One might label it as sop??s clique. Maybe it does look like a clique, but we constantly look for new members. We don't want to just stay within our group. I can??t speak for everyone in sfc, but at least I know sop, laifu and I always look for ways to expand the club. We look for ways to reach out and so others can join the family and feel the warmth. Even if people don't join because of value differences, we hope that they can be encouraged to build their own communities. Nowadays, it's really hard to find a group of friends that really love each other - the kind of love that exemplifies Jesus' love. Sop and I joked that we are doing evangelism in SOP way. (Let our action speak for itself instead of being preachy) If you are Christian and reading this, I challenge u to think about what evangelism really means. Or what it really means to be a Christian.

In a short period of time, a tight group of good friends is formed. Personally, I was amazed by the fact that how everyone bonded so well. Needless to say, we are still trying to know each other better, and we continue to learn from each other as we discover everyone??s uniqueness. We also learn about each other??s weakness and struggles and try to life each other up with foods and laughers. No one is really better or special than any other person in the group. Sop doesn??t really have special power, either. She is just a kid who cares about her friends. Anyway, that's all I have for now. Time to sleep.

As always, our club is about flexibility so due to some recent changes, we will have to postpone the softball game (originally palnned on 7/10) and change the event to ping pong at Danio's place. Since I am sure the guys want to play basketball, we will have ping pong some time 4pm till whenever =]

ps. i am sure laifu can't take another softball game just yet.... XD

#5 so you don’t have to any house work
#4 No need to spend time to please the other and think up ways to be Mr. or Mrs. Romantic
#3 does not have to rush home right after work to make dinner for the significant other
#2 you can play as much video game as you want or whatever you like to do
#1 so you can always hang out w/Sophia and Kenny!!!!

Haha…J/K all. You probably think Sop and Ken has become obsessive over our members that we are trying every way to keep you all single :p Actually we just want to tell you all thanks for accommodating our schedule so we can hang out. The topic of hanging out with other couples came up last night during dinner but it’s really not realistic since couples usually have so many affairs to attend to and only single people can accommodate the two of us. So again thanks!

This is responding to Sophia’s camping afterthoughts.

The best thing about the SOP fantasy camp is the great company we all enjoyed, which every founding member had contributed to.

Thanks to Laifu for organizing and putting everything together. I didn’t realize until Sop brought up the “first impression” topic that Laifu and I only saw each other for a few times throughout these years. By getting to know Laifu (in person), I’ve learned that a person can be cool even if he is not able to tell the difference between red and green. After all, he brought a purple cup with him, totally Dorothy-friendly. Another thing is that I think Laifu provided more history information than I did.

Thanks to Sophia and Kenny for…easing some of my fear and doubts about getting married. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned from your interaction with each other in the very little time I’ve known you. As you all know, I claim to be a commit-phobia. One reason is that my commitments to relationship never turned out too well. Additionally, I enjoy being single so much and always feel sorry for couples who have unhealthy relationships, but nonetheless stay together because they are unwilling to solve their problems.

Thanks to Daniel for inviting me. I basically got to know all of you through him. Despite my ignorance of being a caring person sometimes, he still treats me as a good friend. I am extremely blessed because of this.

I have to quote something from the very-Christian-lady who sits next to me in the office--Everything has a purpose, if you think about it. Just by reading some of our afterthoughts, I’ll say that the SOP camp was relaxing, chilling, and inspiring!!

SML Camping Thoughts

G. B. Stern once said that "One thing that's good about procrastination is that you always have something planned for tomorrow." but since I already have much planned for tomorrow, I am going to finish my assignment that we had agreed on and blog my Smith Mountain Lake trip thoughts.

Basically, there is not much to say. Ok, what I mean by not much to say is I never really knew camping can be so relaxing, soothing, and fun. And Laifu is probably right. It's about who you go with not what you do. Over the past few months I've meet some new friends who have made my weekends very interesting. Of course this does not only apply to the SFC people but for the time being, let's just stick with the SML camping trip.

It's not really only about being stupid with friends or doing nothing but rather coming back from camping feeling you've learn and grown. Learn how to become a better camper, fisherman, scientist, politician, and historian. Maybe there are set answer to some of the things we talked about but our conversations was neither narrow minded nor politically correct. In a way it also makes you want to become a better friend/person because of the people who surrounds you and inspire you; knowing that there are so much more you don't know and so much more you can improve and grow on.

what da heck is the pole doing on our camp ground

While we were at the camp site, Laifu was asking Danio what is the use of the pole on our camp site. Danio said it was to place trash bags. However, after checking the description of the camp site today, it is actually for hanging a lantern lamp. We should have hung my flash light lantern on it while we were there.

Yes this is my first time ever to write something on a Blog. With my very limited computer skill, anything more than using Word, googling, and checking emails/chatting on a computer is considered challenging.

Smith Mountain Lake camping after thoughts

So, we went to Smith Mountain Lake for our first annual Sop Fantasy Club camping trip. It was a very successful event. Although we though it will rain a lot on Friday, it actually stopped raining before we got there. We had no problem setting up the tent and cooking dinner in the dark. The first meal was realy enjoyable thanks to sop's barbeque skill.

The camp site itself was great and big enough for the five of us. Shower and bothroom are very nice and clean. Not many bugs to bug you. The beach area looked nice and the boating was fun and relax, or in another word that Dorothy will say, "chill". I would say it is the best camp site I have ever been to in the past. Love the 5-stars hot shower.

The food we bought was just the right amount. I kept on thinking that those food would not have been enough when we were shopping, but thanks again to sop's judgement and cooking skills, we didn't have much left over to bring home.

During the farewell night, I mastered my begger's chicken cooking. The trick was to use apple to hold the chicken on the stick. We were all surprised that it was so tasty, even the apple. I will have to do that again next time.

The only things we didn't do well was fishing and cooking yam, but I am sure we will do better next year.
